Franca Sozzani was the editor-in-chief of *Vogue Italia* for 28 years; her work ethic, visual vision, and unbridled imagination were all reflected in the documentary *Chaos & Creation*, a film created by her only son, Francesco Carrozzini, which took six years to shoot.

This documentary is an intimate story that reveals how Franca Sozzani sacrifices her personal life to devote herself fully to her passion for fashion. Her subversive approach made possible a number of issues in which she expressed her views on current topics that were the industry’s greatest fears and taboos—issues dedicated entirely to the fight against racism, cosmetic surgery as a part of modern life, rehabilitation, domestic violence, drugs, oil spills, and other important issues affecting our world from a global perspective.

These issues are the perfect slap in the face to people who thought it was inappropriate for the fashion industry to comment on such serious issues. The special features and photo shoots in these issues tell a story—one in which brands like Versace, Gucci, and Dior, and photographers like Lindbergh, Meisel, Roversi, and Weber could have been involved—and this would offer a different perspective to those people or groups who often dismiss the fashion industry as frivolous. One of the reasons Franca committed to thisChaos & Creationproject was that, after her father’s death, she felt she had never truly known him. For her, it wasn’t enough simply to write about the causes he fought for; she also wanted to showcase those images so they could endure and remain in our memories.
